Recycle Your OKA b. Sandals

grey-sandals

Spring is here, and that means that sandal-weather is just around the corner. I actually brought my flip flops out of the closet this past Saturday for the first time since last September. It felt great.

If you’re in the market for a new pair of sandals for the summer months, or a cute pair of flip flops for an upcoming vacation, check out OKA b—they’ve got a huge selection of colorful thongs, slides, flats, and even heels (all with a reflexology-influenced massaging footbeds). The material is super cushioned, antimicrobial, waterproof, and washable. And, best of all, OKA b.’s footwear is recyclable.

However, you obviously can’t just toss them out on the curb with your tin cans and glass bottles … So how do you recycle them? For the answer to that question we went straight to OKA b.’s Director of Communications, Adina Neufeld.

This is what she had to say:

“Any ‘well-loved’ OKA b. Sandal that is sent back to our Buford, GA factory is sent through a ‘regrinder’ where it is broken down into bits. The bits are separated by colors in bins throughout the plant. When a new shoe is created, up to 20% of the regrind is put into every shoe (depending on the color) and mixed with virgin material. What’s great though, is that the remainder of the regrind that can’t be used to make a new shoe is then sold to a company that makes kitchen mats! So 100% of the shoe is recyclable in the end.”
